Things to do in Memorial Houston this weekend: a local's guide

By Pawty Yoga · Published May 2026 · 9 min read

If you're in Memorial, Bunker Hill, Hedwig Village, or Spring Branch and Googling "things to do in Memorial Houston this weekend," this is the locals' answer. We're a Memorial-based studio (Pawty Yoga at Fred Astaire Dance Studio on Memorial Drive) and these are the spots we send our own guests, friends, and out-of-town visitors to — within a 10-minute drive of the studio.

Skip the generic "Top 10 Things To Do in Houston" lists. They were written by people who've never lived in 77024 and they always tell you to go to the Galleria. Here's the real one.

1. Pawty Yoga — Saturday or Sunday morning

Disclaimer: it's us. But also, it genuinely is one of the easiest yes weekends in Memorial right now — 75-minute beginner-friendly puppy yoga at Fred Astaire Dance Studio, $60/person, max 20 mats per session, with vetted ethical-breeder puppies. It's the only dedicated puppy yoga studio in Houston. Memorial neighborhood page · book a session.

2. Memorial Park trails or Picnic Loop

The single best free thing in Houston, and it's 10 minutes east of our studio. Three options depending on energy:

If you do Pawty Yoga's 9 AM Saturday slot, you can hit Memorial Park right after for an extended morning.

3. Terry Hershey Park bike trail

The other Memorial-area trail. Less crowded than Memorial Park, longer (12+ miles), runs along Buffalo Bayou. Great for cyclists. The trailhead at Beltway 8 and Memorial is 8 minutes from our studio.

4. Brunch within 5 minutes of Pawty Yoga

The brunch question is the most-asked "after Pawty Yoga, where to go" — three picks all within 5 minutes of the studio:

5. Town & Country Village shopping

Open-air shopping center between I-10 and Memorial Drive — a few minutes east of our studio. Anchor: Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma. The vibe is mid-tier upscale, the parking is free, and there are decent restaurants if you want to extend the morning into lunch.

6. Memorial City Mall + ICE at Memorial City

For families with kids 4–12, ICE at Memorial City (the indoor ice rink) is a real Saturday afternoon. The mall itself is more practical than scenic — it's where you go for last-minute things, not for browsing. Both are 5 minutes from us.

7. Brazos Bookstore (Hedwig Village area)

Independent bookstore — they host author readings and kids' story hours on weekends. A great combination with Pawty Yoga's morning slot if you want a "calm Saturday" theme. About 8 minutes from our studio.

8. Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

155 acres on the Memorial Park side. Free admission, dog-friendly trails (on leash), a great escape that doesn't feel like Houston. Best in spring and fall; manageable in summer if you go before 10 AM.

9. Karbach Brewing taproom + dog-friendly patio

Memorial-area locals know it: Karbach has a huge dog-friendly patio, food trucks rotating in, and live music on weekend afternoons. About 12 minutes north of our studio. If your Saturday becomes "puppy yoga in the morning, real dogs on a patio in the afternoon," Karbach is the move.

10. City Centre Plaza

The lifestyle center on I-10 just east of Beltway 8. Free outdoor concerts most weekends spring through fall, restaurants, fountains kids will run through. Free parking. Easy hangout if you don't want to commit to anything in particular. 5 minutes from our studio.

Other lists worth your weekend

If you're stretching the radius beyond Memorial:

Three honest things about a Memorial weekend

  1. Beat the heat by starting early. June–September, anything outdoors needs to start before 10 AM or after 6 PM. Pawty Yoga's morning slots (9 AM, 11 AM) work because they're indoors and air-conditioned.
  2. Parking is easy here. Compared to inner-loop neighborhoods, Memorial has free parking everywhere. You don't have to plan around it.
  3. Houston traffic is real on Saturdays. Memorial Drive moves better than I-10. If you're heading anywhere, take Memorial west or San Felipe east.
